A wonderful old portrait of John Whitlock Radford and his wife Rachel Leah Smith Ross Radford

This incredible old picture is one of the most unique I have ever had the priviledge of working with. The original is on tin (Tintype, I suppose), and it has been hand painted over the photograph. I can only guess that perhaps the original tintype was dull and lifeless (Being an early and unperfected technology) so someone hand painted over the photo to give it more detail and color. In any case, it is a beautiful old tin photograph of two people who were very important to our Morgan Families.

The lives of Thomas Morgan and John Whitlock Radford were so intertwined that it is almost as if John Whitlock was part of the Morgan family. The two men worked together in the Leamington, Utah area and moved their families to Wyoming in 1888 and 1889. From the Mid 1860's into the 1890's members of these famiies joined in several marriages. Thomas Morgan married John Whitlock's daughter Nancy Jane Radford in 1871. John Whitlock and Leah Radford's sons John Franklin Radford and Daniel H. Radford married Thomas and Ann Morgan's daughters Priscilla (1871) and Everal Hannah (1877).

Rachel Leah Smith was married first to Andrew Jackson Ross. After he was killed in a logging accident she married John Whitlock Radford.
